How many times have you been rudely put in your place by the MacSnob who just can't understand how you can get along without a hard drive (“Oh, I just couldn't live without being able to run my10,000 by 5,000 cell Jazz spread sheet’’)
You've heard it before: “Oh wow, how do they ever expect me to edit my 680 page thesis with MacWrite’’ or “What?!? How do you expect to get anything done without running MacDraw, MacPaint, Word, Multiplan, Chart, File, and Smartcom all at the same time!?!?’’ Then there's always the guy who continually grumbles “What a drag. . . this thing is tooooooo slow for me. I can't stand to wait more than .0003 seconds for anything!’’ Or how about the “MacVersionMonger’’ who always has a later version than you do of Copy II Mac. (by the way did you know version 4.67893275 is out?) Sound familiar?
Now “the rest of us’’ are in luck! The next time you're confronted or poo-pooed by MacSnob, here are some come-backs that are sure to work:
The “Acunet T45’’ (AT&T) offers data transmission at speeds up to 45 million baud! Can't relate to that? Now you can send a copy of Homer's Odyssey every second! It's available to corporate customers of AT&T. Don't ask how much. (You mean you're still running at 1200 baud?!?)
Sony recently unveiled their new laser-disk based storage system which uses writeable 3.2 Gigabyte optical disks and jukebox-like autochangers, which allows online access of up to (are you ready for this) 820 gigabytes of information. (You'll have to wait for the new 1,550 screen Switcher which is rumored to be out in January. Or was that February?)
And finally, move over LaserWriter: Japan has now seen the introduction of probably the worlds biggest printer. It's used to print full sized bill boards measuring up to 23 by 50 feet! In color! A normal run takes as just over 4 hours. Don't plan to carry it upstairs, however, it weighs in at 16.7 tons. How will we ever be happy again with an 8.5 X 11 inch print out!?!
